Sheriff Bobby Riles Signs Drug Exposed Child Protocol

         On Tuesday December 1, 2009 Sheriff Bobby Riles along with 25th Judicial District Attorney General, Mike Dunavant, the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center , and 1st Responder Agencies across Fayette County  signed on with a landmark drug exposed child protocol which is designed to protect children who may have been exposed to methamphetamine and other harmful drugs.  The purpose of the formation of such a protocol is to build a coordinated, collaborative response between agencies to ensure child safety, information gathering and sharing, evidence identification, collection and preservation, crime scene documentation, appropriate mental health counseling and treatment interventions for children and parents.  The Fayette County Protocol will provide a coordinated response to drug endangered children for the safety of children and the prosecution of each case.  The protocol is designed to provide multidisciplinary agencies a foundation on which to build best practice procedures for situations involving drug endangered children.  Representatives from local law enforcement agencies and fire agencies in the area were also on hand to sign the document.  “The formation of this protocol has truly been a result of the commitment of the First Responder Agencies throughout the county.” said Amanda Hopkins of the Exchange Club-Carl Perkins Center.

Fayette County Sheriff's Department Narcotics Unit Makes Multiple Meth Lab Busts

         Over a three week time period the Fayette County Sheriff's Department has seized four methamphetamine labs with the most recent bust occurring at a home valued at over $300,000 in Hickory Withe.  Narcotics investigators with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department made their fourth methamphetamine lab discovery in three weeks last night (12-4-09).  The seizure of this lab comes as the result of a year long investigation into a residence located at 95 Estate Drive in the Hickory Withe area of Fayette County .  Investigators state that neighbors had previously complained of a chemical odor coming from the residence at various times.  Investigators obtained a search warrant and executed it upon the residence shortly after 8pm last night.  Two individuals, Michael Jay Dulin and Mary Elizabeth Dulin were arrested and charged with Initiation of the Process to Manufacture Methamphetamine, Manufacturing a Controlled Substance, Possession of Narcotics, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.  In addition to the methamphetamine lab narcotics officers seized just under 2 grams of finished methamphetamine product, over 1.5 grams of marijuana, 3 handguns, 1 rifle, a newer model Lexus, a Ford F-150 pickup truck, and a motorcycle.  No bond has been set on the individuals and they are still in custody at the Fayette County Jail.  Sheriff Bobby Riles states that his narcotics officers are working vigilantly to combat the methamphetamine problem.  He states that some of the recent publicity regarding the recent meth busts have raised public awareness and sparked the public to contact his office with more tips and information.  He states that as tips continue to come in, his officers will continue to investigate.  Riles says, “This just goes to show you that the meth problem touches people from all walks of life.”
